I'm a recent addition to your group and haven't really had a chance to attend anything except for the Vandana Shiva talk (which was really inspiring).  I will be traveling to Haiti in September as part of a free herbal clinic and am holding a fundraiser this Thursday to raise money for herbs and essential oils.  Our group will also be educating locals about their native medicinal plants and encouraging them to grow both medicine and food by donating seed.  I hope some of you can attend!  Please see the attached invitation for more information.

Dear Friends,

As some of you know, I will be traveling to Haiti in September to volunteer at a free herbal clinic in Port Au Prince.  From all reports, the need there is overwhelming and only growing in magnitude.  The project first came together when Jinpa, an herbalist, travelled to Haiti directly after the Earthquake to rescue his father.  When he saw the condition of the people, he called his good friend Julia Graves (herbalist, homeopath, massage therapist) and the clinic was formed.  Since returning from their initial trip, they have been employing a local midwife, herbalist and bonesetter, Oliama, to keep the clinic running, but he needs more help.  In order to make this happen, we need funds to buy medicine.  During their last trip, people waited in line eight hours or more just to see a practitioner for 3 minutes and get a small amount of medicine and compassion.  Five and six year old children carrying their baby brother/sister for care at the clinic was a common and heartbreaking sight.  Each practitioner was seeing about 150 patients per day. The task is tremendous, but with your help we can give help and hope to many.  Attached is information for a benefit I will be hosting July 29th from 7:00-10:00 PM.  I hope to see you all there.  Thank you for your support!  If you wish to donate, but cannot attend, please contact me at [address removed].  Each practitioner is responsible for the purchase of their own medicines and supplies so rather than donating through the website, haiti.citronica.com, it is most convenient to receive donations directly as Julia, the project coordinator, lives in France.  Please bring your friends and feel free to forward this email or invitation.
