NYC activist, writer and organizer on environmental and urban sustainability issues. Interested in how permaculture concepts can be more effectively distributed to NYC residents.
"Invisible structure" is permaculture lingo that doesn't have much meaning outside these circles. Permaculture fans and PDC grads should try communicating in terms the general public will understand, and will want to learn more about. Instead of this question, try: what are some of the projects, organizing methods, and ways of describing sustainable community projects you're interested in? Answer: see my website and blog, http://www.beyondoilnyc.org/ and www.beyondoilnyc.blogspot.com.

Dan: Great to have you as a member!
Sorry the worm bin didn't work out. Our Greenies should put their bins near a window. The little flies are attracted to light and will just congregate at the window, where they'll be easy to trap. A 2 shelf system with potted plants on top and the bin below would work well. Freezing the food waste first, to kill insect eggs, than putting it in the bin beneath a covering of bedding and compost is very important. We have FREE worms to offer new composters!
Dan, great event last night, despite heat. I was sorry to have to leave early - had to catch last ferry to NJ Shore. Look forward to speaking with you at the next event!
Thanks so much for the warm welcome Dan. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and attending any upcoming group events. Thanks again.

Dan - Glad to see that your group is active and growing. Take a look at our website at www.ea-21.org. We succeeded in getting the Open Fuel Standard incorporated in the House climate bill this year. Next year we need to get passage by both Houses. We need all the help you can give. You can see the bill (HR 1476 and S 835) at www.thomas.gov
I am the meetup organizer for NY Passive House. I would like to offer a presentation on Intro to Passive House Standard along w/ NYC Passive House examples. Passive House projects achieve 90% lower heat energy consumption than typical construction, as compared to ENERGY STAR's 20% reductions. It is a rapidly growing standard int the USA and I want to let more people know about it. Let me know if you are interested in the collaboration.
Thanks,
Jeremy Shannon
