What if there were a step-by-step guide anyone could follow to build her own village using open source equipment that generates a consistent stream of wealth from the sun’s energy?
That's the vision of Marcin Jakubowski. Marcin is the founder of Open Source Ecology and creator of the Global Village Construction Set, a collection of 50 tools that can be easily assembled to create a 'resilient, off-grid' community with the modern comforts demanded by post-industrial consumers. Marcin and his team have already created eight prototypes, including a modular power cube, tractor and brick press, each of which are approximately eight times cheaper than their corporately-produced competition. Within twoyears, Marcin aims to complete the GVCS, providng any small group of people with basic fabrication skills the ability to build their own village quickly and inexpensively. Watch this two minute video that explains the GVCS.
Jakubowski's presentation about the GVCS is approximately thirty minutes long. A Q&A will follow, along with a discussion about the implications of open source hardware with a group of hackers and permaculturalists from the New York area. Afterwards, we’ll conduct a brainstorming session with a group of people who're beginning construction of their own open source village two hours outside of New York City, in Eastern Pennsylvania.
