Selected By: Dee Dee

What: Figment Festival Compost Presence: "Figment celebrates an abundance of creativity and passion, challenging artist and our communities to find new ways to create, share, think and dream." We are part of the "Leave No Trace" Team-- our goal is to "Leave a Better Trace".

When: June 11-13, 2010

Where: Governors Island

This is a participatory composting is in Meet-up in 2 parts.

First part:
June 1st: Tuesday Evening: For outdoor bbq/planning meeting/make our own DYI successive t-shirts. Tentative: La Plaza Cultural: 9th and C. If you can't make this date .. we can work something else out individually.

Second part:
Show up at your preferred times between June 11-13 at Figment Festival to collect raw food waste and show people rich vital compost!
We will rotate spots for the most fun and to enjoy the festival. Hopefully people will want to volunteer for the whole day.

Wardrobe: The successive t-shirt you made and whatever remaining elements you choose.

Accoutrement provided: Bikes can be rented if you don't have one. (the "wagons" are kids carryiers so we are looking for a red wagon source or trailer source) Each collector will have two compost bins of which one is empty for food waster and the other has finished soil with which to make a potted seedling (bean seed) in a little pot made of newspaper.

Finished compost goes to the Earth Matters area -- the home of compost on Governors Island. The Earthmatter.org people will have a table with more information and sample bins toward which we point people.

It's pretty simple! Just come out, have fun with us and spread the soil soul.
